The historical record

Who they were

Merribelle looked least like the figure painters expected to place beside an apocalypse. Cheerful, clever, and relentlessly observant, she gathered information, read alliances, and found solutions that stronger heroes dismissed because they did not involve hitting the largest visible object.

Temperament & methods

How they operated

Warm, curious, and disarmingly funny. Merribelle uses charm as a tool, but the kindness beneath it is real—which makes disappointing her surprisingly unpleasant.

  • Making frightened people talk without realizing they are being questioned
  • Using humor to interrupt panic and pride
  • Finding the unguarded route through political and physical defenses
  • Building plans around what people will actually do

Known capabilities

What they brought

  • Espionage, infiltration, and battlefield coordination
  • Lore magic and morale-shaping performance
  • Negotiation across hostile cultures
  • Rapid improvisation when the respectable plan catches fire

What survived the Fall

The deeds attached to the name.

Part history, part national memory, and part legend polished by twenty years of retelling.

  1. 01

Helped transform eight national representatives into a group capable of trusting one another.

  2. 02

Identified weaknesses in the infernal defenses that raw force had missed.

  3. 03

Moved through the final battle dismantling protections and directing attacks where they mattered.

  4. 04

Became the subject of Greenhollow stories in which every victory involved a snack, a lie, or both.

Among the Eight

No Champion stood alone.

Lady Arabelle Thorne

The commander Merribelle advised, irritated, and occasionally rescued from her own dignity.

Grizzik the Embered

Her most dangerous improvisational partner and the reason several plans included the phrase 'after the explosion.'

Vaelith Morathis

A fellow infiltrator with radically different opinions about conversation, sunlight, and appropriate levels of menace.

Where the record stands

Her life after the Fall remains uncertain in the surviving public record. Greenhollow insists she returned home; several mutually exclusive villages claim to possess her favorite chair.
