The historical record

Who they were

Vaelith Morathis was Xorath'Kul's forgotten Champion: a drow sorcerer able to move through shadow as if it were terrain. He was calm, clinical, and more curious about infernal anatomy than anyone found comforting. His power let the Eight reach paths and bindings concealed from ordinary sight.

Temperament & methods

How they operated

Quiet, analytical, and faintly unsettling without being cruel. Vaelith studies enemies with the detached concentration of a scholar examining a rare mechanism—occasionally while the mechanism is still screaming.

  • Scouting through darkness before committing the group
  • Using shadow to bypass fortifications rather than assault them
  • Observing precisely where magical systems fail
  • Speaking only when he has something useful or devastatingly dry to add

Known capabilities

What they brought

  • Innate Shadow Magic sorcery
  • Movement between connected areas of darkness
  • Concealment, magical darkness, and disruption of hostile spellwork
  • Detection and severing of hidden planar connections

Among the Eight

No Champion stood alone.

Elyndor Faelithil

Shared an arcane vocabulary with Vaelith but distrusted methods that could not be inspected in daylight.

Merribelle Fairburrow

One of the few people capable of making his silence feel like participation in a conversation.

Xorath'Kul

The Underdark nation that sent him upward when the consequences of the Fall began reaching below.

Where the record stands

His fate after the Fall is unknown. Even the archive temporarily misplaced him, which he would probably consider proof that his methods worked.
