The person behind the legend

Who they are

Grenak left Fergenstoren Village to win the hand of Bertha, the largest and most coveted orc in the village. Tradition requires a demon skull. Bertha deserves an enormous one. He joined Reese because Reese kills demons, drinks well, and therefore demonstrated impeccable qualifications as a traveling companion. Grenak is brutally direct, unexpectedly tender, and courageous everywhere except high above water on a moving airship.

Signature methods

How they fight

  • A joyful battle-trance fueled by the prospect of killing something worthy of Bertha
  • Reckless, full-force axe attacks
  • Throwing both hand axes when distance or blindness becomes inconvenient
  • Standing between danger and companions before anyone has finished making a plan

Magic & stranger talents

What answers

  • No studied spellcraft. His battle-trance lets him endure punishment that would stop a calmer person.
  • A highly developed instinct for whether a demon’s skull is romantically impressive

What people remember

The incidents that became stories.

Heroism, poor judgment, private grief, public embarrassment—usually in combinations nobody planned.

  1. 01

Bullied a Festival of Flame beer vendor into a discount before the party had properly met.

  2. 02

Gave heartfelt life advice to Susie and was personally offended when she turned out to be a demon.

  3. 03

When blinded in the Ashenvale fight, solved the problem by throwing axes in several directions.

  4. 04

Discovered that he fears heights, deep water, moving ships, and implied sea monsters—ideally all at once.

Session 4Negotiating the essential feature of an undercover disguise

Can Grnak also have mustache?

Session 6Establishing prior stealth experience

Grnak has hidden behind camouflage before when hunting goat, okay?

Session 13Trying to identify the correct enemy captain during a boarding action

Grinnak can't keep count of who is the right captain or not is too confusing. So you have to die.

Session 13Immediately after the preceding tactical decision

Did I get the right one?

From the road

Notes in their own voice

Reconstructed from the surviving campaign record—not verbatim transcripts, but faithful to the person revealed at the table.

On battle

Grenak does not rage. Grenak sees demon. Grenak becomes happy because this may be good skull.

On airships

The sky is too high. The water is too low. The ship moves. This is three problems pretending to be one.

On tactics

Attack the one in front. That is where axe can go.

People in their orbit

No one adventures alone, despite repeated efforts.

Bertha

His intended bride and the standard by which all demon skulls are judged.

Reese

The demon-hunter whose skill, drinking, and company first drew Grenak onto the road.

Susie

A demon disguised as a child. Grenak remains bitter that he wasted good mentorship on her.

Where the record stands

Alive in Vaelthalas. Still has not found a demon skull large enough for Bertha. Standards matter.
