The person behind the legend

Who they are

Valen grew up on the roads of Sunspire among nomadic traders. He learned carpentry by repairing wagons and boats, brewing by choice, and rescue work during the Infernal Invasion by necessity. The war left him convinced that mortals need freedom from the gods—not another god demanding obedience. He now wanders as a protector, philosopher, and increasingly unwilling receiver of visions tied to the red crystals.

Signature methods

How they fight

  • A rapid series of open-hand strikes
  • Throwing a dagger to disrupt a distant threat, then finishing the argument up close
  • Trusting a sudden vision when ordinary tactics have failed
  • Removing defeated enemies from airships with alarming efficiency

Magic & stranger talents

What answers

  • Disciplined inner force used to move and strike beyond ordinary limits
  • Unwanted visions of broken rings, impossible wells, and red-crystal corruption
  • An unusual sensitivity to spiritual imbalance and the presence of Towerheart

What people remember

The incidents that became stories.

Heroism, poor judgment, private grief, public embarrassment—usually in combinations nobody planned.

  1. 01

Saw time stop during the Festival of Flame and witnessed silver rings breaking above an impossible well.

  2. 02

Saved the party at Crystal Hinge by hurling a dagger into the monolith itself.

  3. 03

Had his spirit trapped in the Spirit Realm and was rescued through the honest confessions of his companions.

  4. 04

Threw the final Golden Minotaur boarder over the Storm Wraith’s rail after the interrogation ended.

Caught at the table

From the actual transcript

Things they genuinely said during play. Profanity, questionable plans, and all. Obvious transcription errors have been lightly cleaned; the wording has not been rewritten.

Session 4Volunteering for a drinking-related assignment

As long as I can drink out of it at the same time, I'm your man.

Session 6After Roland warned the party about an infiltrator

I'm not sure what a spy is.

Session 10Attempting to understand the local snake economy

Is this one of those situations where you bring in a snake and you get a beer for each snake you kill, or how does this work?

Session 11Reviewing a collection of magical plants

All right, any herbs I can cook with or just weird little magical herbs that I give no shits about?

From the road

Notes in their own voice

Reconstructed from the surviving campaign record—not verbatim transcripts, but faithful to the person revealed at the table.

After Crystal Hinge

I did not know the dagger would work. I knew only that the crystal wanted us to believe it was untouchable. Most tyrants do.

Regarding the prisoner

He had told us everything he knew. The others looked at me. The sky was very far below. I made a decision.

Vaelthalas

The mead is excellent. The politics are not. Raelynn may be the reverse.

People in their orbit

No one adventures alone, despite repeated efforts.

Raelynn Mossveil

A cheerful Whisperroot receptionist who took an immediate interest in him—and in Sylvaran mead.

The Party

They followed him into the Spirit Realm and told painful truths to bring him home.

The Gods

A complicated philosophical disagreement that may eventually become everyone else’s problem.

Where the record stands

Alive in Vaelthalas. The party has a referral to seek Champion Elyndor Faelithil inside Whisperroot Sanctuary.
