King Maltraxis

He gave Sunspire a perfect century. History remembers the invoice.

Known asThe Sun King
PresencePlain-faced, calm, youthful, and almost impossible to read. Maltraxis rarely needs to raise his voice; the throne, the army, and Svetlana lend terrifying weight to a man who could otherwise disappear in a crowd.

The known record

Who they are

Maltraxis is, at first glance, an entirely ordinary man. Nothing in his face, build, or bearing marks him as a legend. That is precisely what makes his reign so unsettling: five years into it, this unremarkable young king rules a land without famine, unrest, or visible misfortune while every road in the allied nations bends toward his throne. There was nothing exceptional about Maltraxis until he made the bargain. Everything exceptional came afterward.

Habits & methods

How they operate

  • Turning prosperity into political legitimacy
  • Demanding submission rather than accepting simple military victory
  • Making examples of dissenters so the survivors enforce themselves
  • Riding personally to any challenge he considers an insult to his authority

Known capabilities

What they can do

  • Commands the armies and Kingsguard of Sunspire
  • Maintains a supernatural reign of abundance whose full mechanism remains unexplained in the surviving history
  • Recognizes when conquered land has not truly submitted to him
  • Possesses enough power that allied nations send tribute rather than test its limits
